Notes:
This CD is very unique in the approach to the period literature and performance. It actually presents a period repertoire written for the other instruments arranged in a way to present what the pre-Dittersdorf concerti might have sounded - if written by the actual period composers for the original 5 string Viennese violone. Every effort has been made by Lars Baunkilde and his ensemble colleagues to recreate the authentic period tone color and from this perspective this CD offers a truly wonderful voyage to the soundscape of the past. This is also the first modern recording on the gut strings that presents a true Eb variant of Viennese tuning. Congratulations to Lars and the Frederiksstaden ensemble colleagues on this brave attempt to show us how the real heritage of our instrument might have sounded!
