| Edition title: | Kontrabasskonzert "Nr. 1" mit obligater Violine |
| Publisher, Year: | München : G. Henle, c2002. |
| Publisher number: | HN 721 |
| Editor: | Tobias Glöckler |
| Form - edition format: | Concertos (Double bass) - Solo with piano. (Solo w. Piano and Violin II mov.) |
| Piano Key - Solo Key | D major - Downloadable Viennese part (see below), printed part in C |
| Notes: | Glöckler offers here a universal multi-use edition that enables performances in Viennese tuning, orchestra tuning and solo tuning. The two piano parts are in C major and D Major (D intended for the Viennese and solo tunings). There are two solo parts, the C major and the Viennese tuning as written for the normal bass in fourths, for which player does not need to know how to read the original treble clef notation. The original Viennese tuning solo part can be downloaded directly from the Henle site at: http://www.henle.de/pics/noten/hoffm.pdf A solo violine part for the second movement is included, which enables a performance as intended in the original with a solo violin. |

| Editor: | Thomas Schicke |
| Form - edition format: | Concertos (Double bass) - Solo with piano. (Solo w. Piano and Violin II mov.) |
| Piano Key - Solo Key | D major - Facsimile Copy of the solo part in D (printed solo part in C) |
| Notes: | This is the first edition of the Hoffmeister's concerto no. 3, to include a facsimile of the Original Solo Bass part! This edition enables you to perform the piece by looking at the same notes from which the period soloist performed himself. The printed bass part is in C and not suitable for the Viennese tuning, however that should not matter as the faximile of the original solo part is included. This edition is suitable for the Viennese tuning performance in D setup. A peculiarity of this edition is an inclusion of a solo violine part for the second movement, which offers a possibility to to perform this movement as intended in the original with a violin player, or without (there are two piano versions of the second movement). |

| Notes: | This is a unique case where the original Viennese solo bass piece is available as a free download from the internet. The host site is the IMSLP / Petruci Music Library, which also features the other music scores for free download. The original source of this manuscript scan is very likely located in the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien archive, under the number: IX 6395. How it got to this site is unclear, however the IMSLP site does carry a warning that it does not assume any liability or responsibility for the copyright status. The name of Carlo Barato is printed on every sheet of this manuscript copy, indicating that this may be a personal copy. This particular Hoffmeister's quartet was a subject of the two research articles written by Harry Jacobson. Their titles you can locate by following this link of the Books and Articles section. |

| Editor: | Horst Butter |
| Form - edition format: | Quartets - Score and parts |
| Piano Key - Solo Key | D major - D major in the score (original Viennese notation), Bass part in C |
| Notes: | This is one of the first editions of the Viennese solo bass music which have included the original treble clef solo notation, however only in the solo bass staff line of the full score section. The printed bass part supplied with the other instrument parts is intended for the solo tuning and notated in the C major, which is not suitable for the Viennese tuning and in addition contains modifications necessitated by the modern tuning. Although a performance from the score is not as comfortable as from the printed part, if a performance from the original and unaltered notation is sought, this edition offers an alternative. If interested in piano accompaniment, a number of available standard arrangements for the solo tuning can be used as all of them are in D and neither incorporates any cuts in the music. |
